Colorado Young Farmers Celebrating 50 Years in Colorado!
In 2019, the Colorado Young Farmers Educational Association celebrates its 50 Year Anniversary! Over the years, hundreds of members have benefited from the educational programs, agricultural outreach, leadership development, and community service opportunities provided by their involvement with the CYFEA.
In 1968, representatives from Northeastern Junior College, Colorado State University, and the Colorado Vocational Agriculture supervisory staff discussed and planned efforts to increase the amount and quality of adult education in Colorado agriculture. An experimental proposal called “Project 21” began, with the purpose was to demonstrate the effectiveness of a coordinating agency in promoting and developing effective adult education in a prescribed region of the state. Northeastern Colorado, because of the number of schools offering Vocational Agriculture courses (21), was selected as the region, thus the name “Project 21” was selected. In 1969, the Colorado Young Farmer programs emerged with a primary purpose of increasing agricultural education and leadership development statewide.
The CYFEA was formed as a Colorado non-profit and non-political organization, whose mission was to advocate for the state’s agricultural network and has a membership that consists of men and women who are directly involved or interested in agriculture. In 2009, the CYFEA lost its primary source of funding that was traditionally provided by Colorado state’s educational school system. Currently, the CYFEA operates on the annual membership dues from its Chapter membership and generous contributions made by its supporting agricultural businesses and network sponsors. Colorado’s agricultural network depends on accurate science supported information. Helping to educate our ag constituents and Colorado’s general consumer public is one of our goals, both locally and statewide. The CYFEA is proud to be an “advocate for agriculture” in Colorado!
